PRAYER FOR BEATIFICATION OF JOHN PAUL II

The diocese of Rome published the written prayer to implore favors through the intercession of the late Pope John Paul II.
In the last phase of the process of beatification, proof will be required of a miracle attributed to Karol Wojtyla's
intercession. Here is the text of the prayer:

O Blessed Trinity, We thank you for having graced the Church with Pope John Paul II
and for allowing the tenderness of your Fatherly care, the glory of the cross of Christ,
and the splendor of the Holy Spirit,to shine through him.
Trusting fully in Your infinite mercy and in the material intercession of Mary, he has given us a living image
of Jesus the Good Shepherd, and has shown us that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary Christian life
and is the way of achieving eternal communion with you. Grant us by his intercession, and according to Your will,
the graces we implore............. hoping that he will soon be numbered among your saints. Amen

MOTHER’S DAY

MEANING IT

People look at us the rest of the week to see what we really meant by our worship together on Sunday.  —  Anonymous

SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT

Last week we heard that, following the Ascension, the disciples, Mary, and other followers of the Lord retreated to the upper room in prayer. This week we hear that, while praying in that room, the Holy Spirit comes upon them. Jesus' post-Resurrection promise, recounted in today's Gospel, is fulfilled: the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon Jesus' followers. Saint Paul tells us that all of us, in some way, are given gifts of the Holy Spirit, gifts that can be used to spread the Good News. Today is one of the Church's greatest festivals. Let us carry the refrain of the responsorial psalm with us throughout the coming week: "Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth!" (Psalm 104:30) © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.

Christ Jesus, King and Lord of the Church, in your presence I renew my unconditional loyalty to your Vicar on earth, the Pope. In him you have chosen to show us the safe and sure path that we must follow in the midst of confusion, uneasiness, and unrest. I firmly believe that through him you govern, teach, and sanctify us; with him as our shepherd, we form the true Church: one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. Grant me the grace to love, live, and spread faithfully our Holy Father’s teachings. Watch over his life, enlighten his mind, strengthen his spirit, defend him from calumny and evil. Calm the erosive winds of infidelity and disobedience. Hear our prayer and keep your Church united around him, firm in its belief and action, that it may truly be the instrument of your redemption. Amen.

We pray for those whom you call to serve the Church of Archdiocese of San Antonio as priests Inspire in them a generous response. O God, Father of all Mercies, Provider of a bountiful Harvest, send Your Graces upon those You have called to gather the fruits of Your labor; preserve and strengthen them in their lifelong service of you.   Open the hearts of Your children that they may discern Your Holy Will; inspire in them a love and desire to surrender themselves to serving others in the name of Your son, Jesus Christ.   Teach all Your faithful to follow their respective paths in life guided by Your Divine Word and Truth. Through the intercession of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary, all the Angels, and Saints, humbly hear our prayers and grant Your Church's needs, through Christ, our Lord. Amen

QUOTING THE CANON LAW

ARTICLE 2: PARTICIPATION IN THE BLESSED EUCHARIST

Can. 912 Any baptized person who is not forbidden by law may and must be admitted to holy communion.

Can. 913 ßß1 For holy communion to be administered to children, it is required that they have sufficient knowledge and be accurately prepared, so that according to their capacity they understand what the mystery of Christ means, and are able to receive the Body of the Lord with faith and devotion.
ßß2 The blessed Eucharist may, however, be administered to children in danger of death if they can distinguish the Body of Christ from ordinary food and receive communion with reverence.
Can. 914 It is primarily the duty of parents and of those who take their place, as it is the duty of the parish priest, to ensure that children who have reached the use of reason are properly prepared and, having made their sacramental confession, are nourished by this divine food as soon as possible. It is also the duty of the parish priest to see that children who have not reached the use of reason, or whom he has judged to be insufficiently disposed, do not come to holy communion.
Can. 915 Those upon whom the penalty of excommunication or interdict has been imposed or declared, and others who obstinately persist in manifest grave sin, are not to be admitted to holy communion.
Can. 916 Anyone who is conscious of grave sin may not celebrate Mass or receive the Body of the Lord without previously having been to sacramental confession, unless there is a grave reason and there is no opportunity to confess; in this case the person is to remember the obligation to make an act of perfect contrition, which includes the resolve tlineto go to confession as soon as possible.
Can. 917 One who has received the blessed Eucharist may receive it again on the same day only within a Eucharistic celebration in which that person participates, without prejudice to the provision of can. 921 ßß2.

CHAPTER III : THE PENITENT Can 963.  A person who has serious sins remitted by a general absolution is to approach individual confession as soon as there is an opportunity to do so.                       Can. 987 In order that the faithful may receive the saving remedy of the sacrament of penance, they must be so disposed that, repudiating the sins they have committed and having the purpose of amending their lives, they turn back to God.
Can. 988 ßß1 The faithful are bound to confess, in kind and in number, all grave sins committed after baptism, of which after careful examination of conscience they are aware, which have not yet been directly pardoned by the keys of the Church, and which have not been confessed in an individual confession.
ßß2 The faithful are recommended to confess also venial sins.
Can. 989 All the faithful who have reached the age of discretion are bound faithfully to confess their grave sins at least once a year.
Can. 990 No one is forbidden to confess through an interpreter, provided however that abuse and scandal are avoided, and without prejudice to the provision of can. 983 ßß2.
Can. 991 All Christ's faithful are free to confess their sins to lawfully approved confessors of their own choice, even to one of another rite.

FORGIVENESS....People who cannot forgive others break the bridge over which they must pass if they are to reach heaven; for everyone has a need to be forgiven.       —George Herbert

  XXIII WORLD YOUTH DAY

MESSAGE OF THE HOLY FATHER
BENEDICT XVI
TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF THE WORLD
ON THE OCCASION
OF THE XXIII WORLD YOUTH DAY, 2008

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
and you will be my witnesses ” (Acts 1:8)

My dear young friends!

1. The XXIII World Youth Day

I always remember with great joy the various occasions we spent together in Cologne in August 2005. At the end of that unforgettable manifestation of faith and enthusiasm that remains engraved on my spirit and on my heart, I made an appointment with you for the next gathering that will be held in Sydney in 2008. This will be the XXIII World Youth Day and the theme will be: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses” (Acts 1:8). The underlying theme of the spiritual preparation for our meeting in Sydney is the Holy Spirit and mission.    XXIII WORLD YOUTH DAY

TO WORLD YOUTH DAY 2008 SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA...Pope Benedict XVI has invited young people from all over the world to join him Down Under. In July of 2008 hundreds of thousands of youth from every corner of the planet will come together to celebrate the Universal Catholic Church. In collaboration with Youth in Europe, Inc. the Office of Youth Ministry is hosting a trip for World Youth Day 2008. Take time to learn about Australian culture and make a strong connection with some new Aussie friends through Days in the Diocese: 5 days spent with an Australian host family. Then partake in amazing World Youth Day activities. With daily Mass, time for prayer, and the presence of our Holy Father, this will be a spiritual pilgrimage like no other. Come and allow the power of the Holy Spirit to move in your life. Be a witness of Christ to the world! Cost is $3,000.00. See http://www.wydsa.com/http://www.wyd2008.org/.  or http://www.sdswyd.com/  for more information.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO LEARN THE WORLD YOUTH DAY ANTHEM....you can log onto the Parish website at http://www.ourladyofsorrows-sa.org/  to view the words and music.

THE WYD08 LOGO....The Pontifical Council for the Laity and WYD08 Organizers unveiled the WYD08 logo for the first time in Rome on 8 April 2006. The audience: youth delegates from all over the world at the International Gathering of World Youth Day Organizers. The reaction was a mixture of delight and excitement for the event. The concepts behind the WYD08 logo The logo distills the essence of the theme for WYD08: "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses" (Acts 1:8). It highlights the promise made by Jesus to set fire upon the Earth by the power of the Holy Spirit which inspires the Pilgrims who come to Australia, to believe and witness to Him. Central to the logo is the Cross raised in victory, representing Christ and the life of witness which the Holy Spirit enables. It is the passion of the heart of Christ, poured out into the world from the Cross, which consumes the young people of Sydney, of Australia and of the world. The whiteness of the Cross indicates that Jesus is the light of the world. The flames of the logo represent the Descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost in tongues of fire. They evoke the Sacrament of Confirmation and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The colors of red, orange and yellow flowing throughout symbolize the Trinity and Unity of God. They also bring to mind the colors of the Australian outback. The blue of the logo represents the oceans that surround Australia, the waters of Baptism, the sea of humanity and Mary, full of grace. The Opera House is the symbol of Sydney, the host city for World Youth Day 2008.

WORLD YOUTH DAY SALE...Members of the WYD Group will be selling refreshments after all the Masses to raise money for their trip to Australia. Please give them your support.
